On November 9, 2019, Dena liked Ben's photo on Hinge. He had one question.
"What's your favorite genre of music to watch live?"
They texted nonstop for weeks before finally meeting up: food, boba, and EDM. That's where it all started.

Shows together. Company parties. They kept discovering how much they had in common — the same taste in music, a love of exploring new food, and a connection that ran deeper than any of it.
Then the world shut down, right as things were getting great. So they adapted. Hikes by the new house. Virtual dates. Showing up however they could.

Vegas, Monterey weekends, Fourth of July hikes, Hawaii, Outside Lands, holidays together — every weekend was a reason to be somewhere new.
Then they became pawrents to the sweetest boy. Wally has been glued to their side ever since, and they wouldn't have it any other way.

Giants games, 49ers games — if there's a game on, there's a good chance they're watching or they're there, drinks in hand, and fully invested.

Mexico, Thailand, and then Laos — Ben knew how much it meant for Dena to meet her grandmother and her mother's family, and he made sure they got there.
Tahoe in the snow and the summer. Concerts whenever possible.

Every year for the holidays, they head to Las Vegas. Family is there, and it became their tradition. But this December was different, even if Dena didn't know it yet.
Ben booked a room at the Cosmopolitan, Dena's favorite hotel. They started to unpack. Music came on, and Dena noticed immediately.
"This playlist is really good."
What she didn't know was that Ben had made it for her at the very beginning of their relationship, years earlier.
A few minutes later, he got down on one knee. He didn't even get to finish the question.
She said yes. Then the Chandelier Bar for champagne and the Sphere to watch Anyma's opening show — dancing, engaged, and completely over the moon.

After the yes came everything else — Hong Kong, Koh Phi Phi, Colorado, Tahoe. More baseball. More 49ers. More Outside Lands. Life didn't slow down for an engagement. It just got better.

Dr. Ana Griego
Ana and Dena became friends the way all great friendships start: completely by accident. A mutual friend set off pepper spray in Ana's dorm room freshman year. Nobody was staying in that room. The laughing didn't stop, so they took it to the dining hall, and the dining hall led to everything else: Greek life, spring breaks, becoming roommates. Ana has been there for Dena ever since, no matter what.

Alika Niravong
Their parents were friends first, and Alika and Dena came into the world just a month apart — "best friends since birth" is barely an exaggeration. Life pulled them to different states, but distance never changed anything. Now with adult money, they're making childhood dreams come true — Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber live, every word. Alika has been killing it on the marketing team at Levi's for years — and yes, Dena's jeans game has never been better because of it.

Dr. Cindy Koo
Their partners were roommates, which made Cindy and Dena basically roommates too. While the boys played sports, they'd sit together talking about life and taking way too many Snapchat photos. She's an optometrist, pianist, half-marathon runner, and the girl can sing. She also happens to be married to groomsman Brandon.

Kelley Coe
They met through nonprofit work. Kelley was a mentor before she was a friend, someone who saw what Dena was capable of because they volunteered and worked side by side constantly. She was AFP president herself, and when she encouraged Dena to follow the same path, it meant everything. Somewhere between all those volunteer hours and after-work hangs, they realized they had way more in common than fundraising: music, festivals, travel. And just like that, a beautiful friendship formed.

Kate Bongxay
Dena's little sister. There's a big age gap, but they've hit the point where they just get each other. She's a gamer, artist, and crocheter (and has made Dena her most treasured pieces). The type of person who will go to great lengths for the people she loves.

Matthew Vongchanh
Dena's cousin, raised together by their grandmother, and more like a little brother than anything else. They once spent nearly a month in France for a family wedding, where their auntie picked up fresh bread from the bakery every morning and they stood in front of the Eiffel Tower together. Matthew recently landed a role in IT and is just getting started.

Declan Schriever
While not biologically related, the brotherhood between Declan and Ben is strong. Declan, a best man, and Ben became friends in a tough 1st grade environment. Since, they've remained incredibly tight, even working at Uber together, and still play Yugioh on a regular basis. Declan can likely win a Super Smash Bros match against any wedding attendee.

Jared Ben-Jamin
A best man and a best friend - Jared and Ben have been friends since kindergarten and have traveled the planet together venturing to places ranging from Kenya to Costa Rica to Las Vegas. Jared puts his heart into any project he takes on, be it professional or around the house, and is an avid endurance athlete, routinely biking hundreds of miles - his energy is so infectious it somehow got Ben to run a marathon.

Brandon Koo
Brandon, aka BKoo, and Ben go back to elementary, where they became friends while spending afternoons together playing whatever sports or video games they could. Brandon also was a member in a number of Ben's middle school bands, performing a touching rendition of Kanye's Heartless at their graduation. Today, Brandon is a highly regarded Marine and professional who happens to be married to Cindy, a bridesmaid.

Matias Franco
Matias, also known in the Industry as That Franco, has known Ben for longer than any other groomsmen, becoming friends at just 3 years old. Matias and Ben bonded over years of adventures and joint creative projects - ranging from middle school bands to working together on our HS graduating class' senior film. Matias moonlights as an Apple Engineer, while focusing on his career as a Soulful-house/UKG producer.

Sam Dupas
Sam Dupas, simply known as Dupas, became an instant best friend of Ben's within a few weeks of meeting one another as college freshman. Dupas and Ben trauma bonded over Dr. Felker's chemistry course, and cemented that friendship by forming a rock duo and with their mutual love of race-craft. When not on the sim, Dupas spends his days working for NASA at JPL or attending OSL with Ben and Dena.

Sam Sobell
Sam Sobell, more commonly known as Caveman, is both a childhood friend and a UCLA fraternity brother. As one of the smartest friends Ben has, Caveman and Ben would routinely find themselves building (and setting off) bootleg fireworks as children. Today, Caveman works in AI development, working to assure that when it does take over, it at least does so respectfully.

Zale Fadiman
Zale and Ben met shortly after Zale's birth - in the hospital the very same day in fact! Since they have grown incredibly tight sharing interests ranging from Disney park exploration to card collection to board gaming (not that Ben really stands a chance in regard to the latter). Zale is a recent graduate of the University Puget Sound and a true brother in every sense of the word - he also happens to be the bearer of rings.

Christopher Vongchanh
Dena's cousin, but more like a brother. They spent summers swimming in his backyard and traveling with family, including that unforgettable month in France with Matthew and their grandpa. Sweet, caring, and endlessly creative, Christopher recently moved to New York City to follow his dream of becoming a fashion designer.

Tiger Niravong
Alika's (not so little) little brother, which means Tiger and Dena have been in each other's lives since Tiger came into the world. Dena, Alika, and Tiger would spend weekends together playing made-up games and pretending to be members of Codename: Kids Next Door. As an adult, now he's the life of the party. Tiger works as a counselor at a private school, helping students graduate and find their path.
Plenty of options close to the venue, from a short walk to a quick drive. And if you're making a weekend of it, Monterey is worth exploring. Here are some of our favorites.
